About Us

Founded in 2002, the Daughter of Zion Aerial Dance Company is based upon a concept brewing since 1996. The work is collaborative, not only between dancers and actors but also with the apparatus involved and lighting designer. Often it is the apparatus or structure used that develops the movement and storyline. The work began with dancers Nicole Helton and Rina van de Kamp and since then the company has grown. Recently Daughter of Zion Aerial Dance Company was brought to Paros, Greece to teach workshops and perform at two different venues on the island. We were the first international company to teach and perform on Paros. Daughter of Zion was also part of the Festival de Junio in Guatamala City where we performed the first aerial work done on stage in Central America at the Theatro Nacional. Local performances have been in conjunction with Santa Barbara Dance Alliance, the Marjorie Luke Theatre, and Center Stage Theater. We also perform in our own black box studio space in the Santa Ynez valley. Workshops in our technique include: NIA; Pilates; Yoga; Aerial Dance; Theater-the Spine with Breath, Movement, and Sound; and Choreography are available at the Santa Ynez studio. Funding has graciously been provided by: David Bermant Foundation, Ticket Maestro, Marjorie Luke Theater, Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, Los Padres Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and individual donors.
